New Look and Navigation
The overall look and navigation for Visible Alpha’s Excel Add-In has been improved.
To follow along, be sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Excel add-in. Current users should receive a notification to download the latest version. The Excel add-in can also be downloaded from the Spotlight section of the Visible Alpha homepage.
Introducing the VA Task Pane
The VA Task Pane allows you to customize your cells with VAData, VADetail (Company Info) and VADesc (Consensus Statistics) formulas on a live basis, enabling you to see updates as you input values. You will be able to explicitly view the field you are editing and all the possible values for that field.
The Task Pane provides the most up-to-date value from Visible Alpha. If the Formula Bar value (towards the bottom of the panel) is different than your cell value, refresh your worksheet to update all cell values.
To access the sidebar panel, click on Task Pane in the Visible Alpha toolbar, and the panel will appear on the right side of your Excel page. You can expand and contract the size as per your preference. To close the panel, click Task Pane again or click the X in the upper right corner of the panel.
Download Line Item Monitor and Key Values sheets
You can now download the Line Item Monitor directly in the Excel Add-In. The Line Item Monitor can be customized in the web platform with the line items that are most important to you from any financial statement.
The Line Item Monitor and the Key Values sheet can now also be downloaded with other financial statements into a single sheet. Simply select Monitor or Key Values in the download Financial Statements dialog, along with any other statements, and click Download.
Create comp tables in Excel
You can now create comp tables directly in the Excel add-in. Click on the Comparable Analysis function in the toolbar and follow the prompts.
Tip: Use a quick list to download a preset list of tickers.
Support for Bloomberg Tickers
We now support either Bloomberg or VA tickers. To change to the Bloomberg system, click Options in the toolbar and check the BBG Ticker box. The ticker and the exchange code are required for the formulas to work (e.g. AAPL_US).
Please note, only one symbology system is supported at a time.
New layout for financial statement downloads: broker vs. consensus comparisons
It’s now easier to compare consensus data with broker data on an apples-to-apples basis. Choose additional brokers through the dropdown, choose the relevant financial statements and click Download.
The sheet will then populate with each broker’s estimates next to consensus for easy comparison.
Revision Analysis template
Just like our Earnings Preview template, the new Revision Analysis template enables you to download a preset worksheet to easily track changes at a very granular level to consensus and broker estimates for the companies you follow, especially after earnings.
The sheet is dynamic. As a company finishes reporting a quarter, the worksheet will automatically update to the next forecast quarter. Customize the Revisions as of and Versus Date fields, and the values will automatically recalculate for each cell.
Access the Revision Analysis template by clicking Template in the toolbar.
